Temporary Work Visas
A skilled individual can work temporarily in Australia by being invited to or employed by an Australian entity.
Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (Subclass 482)
This visa allows Australian businesses to sponsor skilled workers from overseas to fill labour shortages when qualified local workers cannot be found. It is available for short-term (up to 2 years), medium-term (up to 4 years), and labour agreement streams, depending on the occupation and industry needs.
Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) visa (Subclass 400)
This visa allows individuals to come to Australia for a short period (between 3 and 6 months) to undertake highly specialized, non-ongoing work or participate in activities that benefit Australia’s interests. This visa is ideal for professionals with niche skills or expertise that are not readily available in the Australian workforce.
Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional visa (Provisional) (Subclass 494)
This visa allows Australian employers in designated regional areas to sponsor skilled workers from overseas for a temporary stay of up to 5 years, with a pathway to permanent residency after 3 years. It is designed to address labour shortages in regional Australia by attracting skilled workers willing to live and work outside major cities.
Training Visa (Subclass 407)
This visa allows individuals to participate in occupational training or professional development activities to improve their skills in their field of expertise. This visa is designed for those who need structured workplace training or require registration to be eligible for employment in their occupation. It is typically sponsored by an approved Australian organization and can be granted for up to two years.
Temporary Activity Visa (Subclass 408)
This visa caters for individuals participating in an occupational exchange, or in sporting, research or entertainment activities. Sponsorship by an approved Australian business is required.
